of Extenics gets fruits after 28 years”

The
Appraisal Committee, which was leaded by senior Academician Wu Wenjun of Chinese
Academy of Sciences and Academician Li Youping of Chinese Academy of
Engineering, highly appraised Extenics, which was founded by Researcher Cai wen
of Guangdong University of Technology. They considered unanimously that Cai wen
etc. had established a new subject, Extenics, which betrides philosophy, maths
and engineering science through 20-year continuous study. Extenics is an
original subject full of profound meaning founded by scientist of China. A few
days ago, Researcher Cai wen, who is the superintendent of Researcher Institute
of Extension Engineering, GDUT, and Researcher Yang Chunyan, who is the vice-
superintendent, introduced its process of establishment and its application
prospect to the journalists.
Cai
wen etc. began to study Extenics in 1976. They experienced lots of difficulties
during the course. Their monograph, Extension Theory and its Study of
Application, summarized all kinds of contradictory phenomena and the methods
dealing with them. A new knowledge was formed through formalization(represented
with symbols), logiclization(can be reasoned) and mathematicaslization(can be
quantified).
As
we knew, National Natural Science Foundation and Natural Science Foundation of
Guangdong Province supported Cai wen to study with 7 items from 1988. Now the
fruit of study has matured. It represents the matter, thing and their
relationship with formalized language. So it represents the rules, which are
represented with natural language in philosophy, with symbolic language, and
forms the formalized methods solving contradiction. It established system of
basic theory and method to realize operation in computers.
According
to the introduction, theory of matter-element, theory of extension set and
extension logic are the three pillars of extension theory. The objects studied
are represented with matter-element, affair-element and relation-element in
theory of matter-element. Theory of extension set is a creation after cantor set
and fuzzy set. It extends the concept of distance of real variable function, and
introduced the dependent funcation which represents the change of quality of
objective things. It provided qualified means to express the transformation of
contradictory problems. Extension logic is the scientific integration of
discriminated logic and formalized logic.
As
we knew, the item provided basic theory and basic method to dealing with
problems with computers in engineering field. It has been applied in Controlling
& Detecting, Artificial Intelligence & Computer and Economy &
Management, etc.. In Artificial Intelligence, this item established a new model
representing information and knowledge, so provided an operable method for
generating the strategies solving contradictory problems.
The
authority concerned considered that no other people at home and abroad had done
such deep similar job. The former original studies were done by Newton, Einstein
etc., but no Chinese. The study engaged by Cai wen etc. “deserves support,
development and encouragement”.
