     ¡°The Xiangshan Science Meeting of Symposium 271 held at the Beijing Fragrant Hill Hotel on 6-7 December 2005, was organized jointly by Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Engineering, National Natural Science Fund Committee, COSTIND and PLA General Armament Department. The theme of the symposium is on "scientific significance of Extenics and its future development".¡±


    The assembly room: In the discussion, the experts participating in the conference considered that Extenics envisages contradictory problems and puts forward a grave task, which is worthy of attention and should not blench. Extenics is a transverse, general, intersectant and developing discipline. The all hope that Extenics could become a kind of mathematical tool, which would link natural science and social science. All experts said that the independent innovation of Chinese scholars should be supported and protected.

     
Five consensus of Extenics

The extension theory is an emerging discipline that takes the contradictory problems as the object of study, takes contradictory problems intellectualized processing as the main research content, and takes the extension methodology as a main research method. Research on intelligent processing of contradictory problems is of great significance to the development of modern science.

On the positioning of Extenics: Extenics is an intersection discipline of philosophy, mathematics and engineering. Since Extenics studies exist in various fields of research, therefore, the discussion agreed with the positioning about Extenics that Extenics is a cross disciplines just like sciences of information theory, Cybernetics theory and systems theory.

Extenics broke through the limitations of Cantor set, fuzzy sets and classical logic. It established extension set, the dependent function, extension logic and extension methods. It initially formed an ability to describe and address the issue of quantitative change and qualitative change. It has constructed theory system and application methods of intellectualization process for contradictory problems.

Extenics and other disciplines of cross fusion, initially achieved a number of engineering applications in action, showing the broad application prospects.

Extenics is an new cross-sectional discipline which should be paid more attention to and given more support. It regards the intelligent process to solve contradictory problems as the core.

¡¡¡¡To establish a set of formalized theories and methods to deal with contradictory problems, and enable people to generate strategy of contradiction solving based on particular procedure.¡¡

¡¡¡¡Studying inference methods and technology operated by computer, leading computer to help people with contradiction solving. Also developing corresponding smart system, helping machine to deal with contradictory problems.

Study dynamic set theory based on alternate, and express formally how to turn problems from contradictory ones to reconcilable one by using transformation;
Study quantitative tools to describe property transforming procedure;
Study formalized model whose research based on the combination of quality and quantity, overcoming the limitation of using mathematical model to study quantitative relation;
Research consider of formalization, the intension and extension of things, inference and transforming logic system at the same time.
Study transformation and the basis of its object generating;

Due to objects of Extenics studies exist in various fields of research, therefore, the discussion agreed with positioning Extenics a cross disciplines as information theory, Cybernetics theory and systems theory.                                               
 
 

Build Extenics a new discipline that has a mature theory and wide application. In theory, studies on extension set theory, correlative function theory, basic-element theory and extension logic should be enhanced in the future. In method researching, should build full formalized and quantitative method systems that can be operated expediently in computer and used to generate strategy for contradictory problems solving, by using extension thinking mode, based on philosophy view;

In the 21st century, making full use of smart tools will be an important task of the modernization in many fields of national economy. Creating intelligent machines that can deal with contradictory problem will become an important work to promote future science and technology development. At present, we lead the world on the research on basic theories and methods for processing contradictory problem intelligently. However, making computer deal with contradictory problem perfectly still needs lots of work;

The application of extension theory and extension method in multiple areas may lead to achievements in the tope level worldwide: leading the world in intelligent computer creating based on extension theory; manufacturing intelligent machine based on extension theory will be application in multiple fields; extension strategy generate software being widely used; extension data mining software being widely used in multiple fields; extension theory and extension methods being widely used in network research, etc.

 

Prof. Cai Wen of Guangdong University of Technology is the organiger of Extenics.

¡¡¡¡ He delivered a speech whose theme is ¡°Extenics: Its Significance in Science and Prospects in Application¡±. Prof. Cai Wen introduced the research object, summarized the fruits of Extenics which include the research situation of extension theory, extension methodology system and extension engineering, and set forth the scientific significance and the future prospects development of Extenics.


Prof. Tu Xu-yan, University of Science and Technology Beijing

¡¡¡¡He had a report on ¡°The Intersection and Inosculation Between Extenics and Other Disciplines¡±. He pointed that Extenics studies the extension, innovation, transformation of things and their relationship and the transformation of contradictory problems, which has the significance of scientific methodology. Therefore, it has wide relation with other many disciplines. The intersection and inosculation between Extenics and other disciplines produces extension engineering, which could be used in many fields.


Prof. Li You-ping the academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering

¡¡¡¡He pointed out that Extenisc is a kind of communicative chain and a kind of connective means. It introduces human beings¡¯ wisdom into computers. It is a kind of tool that can combine the qualitative semantics and quantitative data. Extenics introduces the expression of measure value to social science by dint of digital. Then computing based on measure value could be done and digital tools and ¡°computers could be used in social science¡± ¡°Extenics will become a bridge between natural science and social science¡±


Prof. Zhong Yi-xin Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications

¡¡¡¡He made a brief summary on the conference on behalf of executive chairs. He considered that all of the reports and discussions are profound and rich in content. the conference was held at the atmosphere of democracy, equality, harmony, responsibility, saying one¡¯s say and seeking common points while reserving difference, which is reflectd in th the acquired beneficial elicitations and five common understandings.


Prof.Xu Wei-xuan The Institute of Policy and Management of Chinese Academy of Sciences

¡¡¡¡ He delivered a speech on ¡°The Scientific Significance of Extenics Research¡±:
(1)built a new discipline;      (2)Extending maths based on Extenics;
(3)proposed new concepts and extension methods;        (4)The philosophy meaning of Extenics; 
(5)would become one of the basic theories of Artificial Intelligence.


Prof. Yang Chun-yan Guangdong University of Technology

¡¡¡¡She pointed out the four basic characteristics of extension methodology. They are formalized and modeling characteristics, extensible and convergent characteristics, transformable and conductible characteristics, and integral and synthetical characteristics. She considered that the methodology both embodies the ideas on system and macrocosm in ancient China and combines the analysis methods of revertible theory. Extension methods are effective methods in analyzing, transforming, reasoning and judging contradictory problems and generating strategies for solving them.


Prof. Hu Bao-qing Wuhan University

¡¡¡¡In his special speech of ¡°The Opening-up of Extenics to Mathematical Basic and Logic¡±, pointed out that extension set breaks through the forbidden zone of concept on set and makes set have a kind of innovative and abnormal characteristics. Extension set is a kind of quantitative tool which could express the process of a matter¡¯s changing from one state or ¡°status¡± to its opposite. And it also can express the changeable characteristic of things.


Prof. Qian Jun-sheng Party School of the Central Committee of C.P.C

¡¡¡¡In the speech on ¡°The Philosophical Basic of Extenics¡±, pointed out that Extenics assimilates the formalized characteristic of formal logic, adopts the thought of studying relation and development in dialectic logic. Then a kind of new logic that changes contradictory problems to compatible ones is formed. It is the important theoretical innovation and practical innovation of Extenics

¡¡¡¡He pointed out in his speech that Extenics is a discipline which studies contradictory problems solving. contradictory problems solving is an important intelligent activity, and it also embodies the level of artificial intelligence. It emphasizes the exertion of intelligence and is more innovative than general problems solving. The deep research of contradictory problems solving is helpful to the improvement of theoretical level of AI.

¡¡¡¡He made a report on ¡°The Future Development of Extenics¡±. He put forward the directions of the future development of Extenics. They are: to establish Extenics as a new discipline which has ripe theory and wide applications; to create intelligent machines solving contradictory problems; and to achieve one-up international fruits in several aspects with the application and popularity in many fields.


Prof. Liu Wei Dalian Maritime University

¡¡¡¡He made a report on¡°the intersection and blending of Extenics and management¡±, which introduced the basic ideas, concepts and contents of management extension engineering. He pointed out that a mass of strange contradictions appeared in economy, politics and society with the coming of knowledge economy. The further research on the idea that takes management process as a process of dealing with contradictory problems by using pioneering and innovative methods would form a new management idea, which is fit for sharply mutative environment.


Prof. Zhao Yan-wei Zhejiang University of Technology

¡¡¡¡She pointed out in her speech on ¡°The Application of Extenics in Engineering Technology¡± that the function of Extenics is more and more important in solving pratical engineering problems. A lot of national and overseas scholars have initiated a series of distinctive new fields based on Extenics, such as extension control, extension detecting and extension designing. Up to now, extension designing softwares have been developed and manufactured.
