General introduction
The scenery of Guilin has been called the finest under heaven. Situated in the northeast of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guilin City is South China's shining pearl , with verdant mountains , elegant waters , magnificent crags and fantastic caverns. It has a total area of 2,000 sq.km. and a population of 680.000 (the urban area being 54 sq.km. and the population 300,000).Guilin has a history of more than 2,000 years.In the 6th year of Yuanding During the reign of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty ( 1 1 1 BC), Guilin was a county, called Shi An County, and from the Song Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, it was the political, economic and cultural centre of Guangxi. In 1921,the North Expeditionary Army led by Sun Zhongshan (Dr. Sun Yat-sen) joined forces In Guilin,and the headquarters was sited in the Royal Palace at the foot Of the Solitary Beauty Peak. The city acquired its present name in the year of 1940.
Geographic Information

Belonging to the subtropical region,Guilin enjoys a Mild climate with sufficient rainfall. Its yearly average temperature is 18.8'C, and the hottest month, August, has an average temperature of 28'C, while the coldest months, which are January and February are 8'C on the average. Du Fu,a very famous poet of Tang Dynasty so said of its climate: "When it is scorchingly hot everywhere in the Five Ridges, only Guilin has temperate weather."

Li River
Li River is a bright pearl on the list of China's tourist attractions and it is the highlight of sightseeing tour in Guilin. The 83-kilometer journey boat from Guilin down the river to Yangshuo through the numerous loft peaks of varied shapes is just like enjoying a melodious symphony.

Ludi Yan (Reed Flute Cave)
Described as "Art Palace of Nature", the stalagmite and stone flowers of grotesque shapes in the caves create breathtaking spectacles which are really a feast for the eyes. Half way up the Brightness Hill, Reed Flute Cave is seven kilometers northwest of the center of Guilin. There used to be a special kind of reed growing outside of the cave which was an ideal material for making flute. Inside the U-shaped Karst cave are a large number of stalactites, stalagmites, stone pillars, stone curtains, and stone flowers, all glistening in colorful lights. In a distance of 500 meter between the entrance and the exit, there are more than 30 interesting sights, including " Pine in the Snow", "Mushroom Hill","Virgin Forest"… The Reed Flute Cave is justifiably called the " Art Palace of Nature".

Xiangbi Shan (Elephant Trunk Hill)
This hill resembles an elephant sucking water. The Elephant Eye Rock perches high up the hill, with a hole running through it from left to right. Between the elephant's trunk and the body is a big round hole. It's reflection in the water is the exact image of the full moon, and hence its name" water Moon Cave". On the cliff there are more than 50 pieces of carved inscriptions belong to different periods. At the moonlight night, you will feel yourself merged with the moon in the sky, the moon in the cave and the moon at the river bottom. It is a symbol and landmark of the city.

West Street at Yangshuo County
The West Street at downtown has attracted a large number of international travelers. The West Street is all flanked by small shops and vendor's stands selling all kinds of souvenirs and snacks. Chinese and the young Western bicyclists and backpackers are seen hanging out at Micky Mao's or Hard Rock Cafe, or at Lisa's Cafe eating apple pie, beefsteak French fries, and ice-cream sundaes.(" where else in China you gonna find this?'') On the West Street, international tourists feel at home, because everyone speaks in fluent English and every restaurant or bar offers menus in several languages. Here there is no loneliness as internet service connects travelers with their relatives at the farthest end of world.

Yellow Cloth Shoal
Boating downstream along the Lijiang River , one arrives at the Yellow Cloth Shoal after passing Mural Hill.The river becomes wider and calmer here, so it is an ideal place to appreciate the reflections of the verdant peaks.

Yangshuo
Yangshuo is hemmed in by mountains on the south,west and north.The mountains extend like petals composing a beautiful lotus flower. And the local people live in the middle of this flower.
